How many porta potties do you need per person?
Plan one porta potty for every 50 guests at an event of up to 6 hours. Add one unit for every 100 guests when alcohol is served, and one more per 100 guests past 6 hours. Construction crews need one toilet per 20 workers by law, or one per 10 for cleaner units.
How many porta potties for 100 guests?
A party of 100 guests needs two standard porta potties for up to 6 hours. With beer, wine or a bar, it needs three. A 100-guest wedding with a bar that runs 7 hours needs four units. Public events with food add a hand-wash station for every four toilets.
| Guests | No alcohol, ≤6 hrs | Alcohol, ≤6 hrs | Alcohol, 7+ hrs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| 50 | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| 75 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| 100 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| 150 | 3 | 5 | 7 |
| 200 | 4 | 6 | 8 |
| 250 | 5 | 8 | 11 |
| 300 | 6 | 9 | 12 |
| 500 | 10 | 15 | 20 |
How do you adjust the count step by step?
Start with the base count, then add whole units for each condition. If the base says 3 units and alcohol is served to 150 guests, add 2 units for a total of 5. If the party then runs 8 hours, add 2 more for 7. Round every step up to a whole unit.
- Base: guests ÷ 50, rounded up.
- Alcohol: add guests ÷ 100, rounded up.
- Over 6 hours: add guests ÷ 100, rounded up.
- Public event: make at least 5% accessible, minimum one (2010 ADA Standards §213.2).
- Food or public: one hand-wash station per four toilets (LA County Public Health).
The base and add-on steps are Trulo’s planning method from Whittier event deliveries. Legal minimums come from ADA §213.2, Cal/OSHA §1526 and LA County Public Health community event rules. For permitted public events, the county table may require more.
How many porta potties does a construction crew need?
A construction crew needs one toilet per 20 workers of each sex under Cal/OSHA section 1526. With one weekly service, one unit stays usable for about 10 workers. A 25-person framing crew needs two units by law and three to four units for comfort, plus one hand-wash station.
More questions
Do kids count as guests?
Count kids as full guests. They use restrooms often and take longer. For a children’s party with many toddlers, one wheelchair-accessible unit helps, since a parent can go inside to help.
Should I add a unit if most guests are women?
Add one unit when most guests are women, as at a bridal shower or a quinceañera with many relatives. Women take about twice as long per visit, and lines form at standard counts. Men-heavy events like car shows can stay at the base count.
